You know you’re a cageless cattery when you hear this on a daily basis …

“Yeeeee-ooooww!! “

“Oh, I’m so sorry, baby.  I didn’t mean to step on you.  Are you okay?”

Sunday morning, I stepped on Holly’s foot wearing my dress shoes.  Poor kitten!  She’s fine, but I felt bad.

This morning, I stepped on Mistletoe’s foot, but at least I was barefoot.

Gives a whole new meaning to the term “raised underfoot”.    These kittens are definitely raised underfoot.

Bath time, Kittens, and Progress!

Yesterday was bath day for all the cats in our home.  We bathed all 7 kittens and 5 adults, yesterday.  After they air-dried in the cozy kitchen with the heat turned up, we brushed them all.  Some of the younger kittens were very easy to brush, but the adults and the oldest kittens had a few more knots to work out.   We set up an assembly line, and my oldest two daughters helped me with the process.

I’ve always dreaded bathing our male cat, Max, because he fights it so badly and is so strong.  But he was a doll yesterday and very easy to work with.  We’d saved him for last, and then it wasn’t a problem at all.  I figured out why — I didn’t fill the sink.  Usually I place him in a half full sink or tub, and he fights so bad to get out.  This time I just worked with running water instead of placing him into standing water.  He handled it much better!

Dreamy’s last two kittens will be leaving this week.  Sage is going home with a family today!  There are children looking forward to his snuggles and purrs, and he’s going to love it!   Pumpkin will be leaving this weekend, going to another small family cattery.   He’ll enjoy the children in that home, too.

I need to update our ads around the internet, since all that will remain available are black kittens.  Soot and Coal need a photo taken together for the ads.  They are handsome guys, even if their black coats aren’t as flashy as Sage and Pumpkin’s bi-color coats.   Later we will have two black female kittens available, but not quite yet.

Speaking of the black female kittens.  They are Sweetie’s babies, and one of them was NOT using the litter box.  At all!!  No matter how many times I put her in it,  she refused to use it.  We’d never had a kitten reach 8 weeks and not be litter-trained, but that was where we were headed with her.  She turns 8 weeks this week.  I finally decided to place her in a room alone (the bathroom) with a clean litter box of her own, to see if the problem was just a refusal to share with others.  That worked!  She’s using the litter box now, but she’s lonely in there.  We send her Mom in with her from time to time.

In a few days, once we feel she has the litter box use down, we’ll try putting her back with the others and see if she’ll share a litter box then.  If not, she’ll need to go to a home with no other cats, so she won’t have to share a litter box.  I’m just thankful we figured out what the problem was.  Progress is good.

I am mailing in Sweetie’s litter registration today for Holly, Mistletoe, and Frankincense.  It’s a little late, but we were delaying because we plan to keep Frankincense for future breeding.  We wanted to register HIM completely on this litter registration, and needed to choose a name for him.

We like to name our cats from hymns, when we can.  Sweetie is really ‘Tis So Sweet, although a breeder friend named her that before she came to us.  We followed the pattern, and named her daughter Rings A Melody — Melody for short.  Joy came to us this summer, and we named her Joy Divine.  Some are hymn titles, and some are just phrases from hymns.  I had compiled a list of possibilities for Frankincense, but needed to choose with the family.

In the end, though, we couldn’t really find the perfect name.  We ended up leaving Frankincense as his first name choice.  I guess we’ll call him Frank as he grows up.  It is referred to in some Christmas carols, but it isn’t quite as majestic as some of the girls’ names we’ve chosen in the past.  We did find a second name choice from a hymn, so we’ll see what he gets to be.  Even if he does get renamed to the second choice, I have a feeling we’ll still call him Frankincense quite a bit.

Our three year old really loves the orange kittens.  She would pick up Pumpkin or Frankincense most often.  She used to cry when we sold a kitten, but she’s adjusting to it now.  I think it helps for her to know that we’ll be keeping Frankincense.  She often picks him up and tells him how he gets to stay here.   The other day she told one of his sisters that we weren’t keeping her … we were going to sell her and eat pizza.  The mind of a three year old can be funny.

I have photos I need to take this week for ads, and I’ll try to update the blog with more photos when I do.

ElCloud Cattery

A busy day at ElCloud Cattery

Today, Melody went home with Melissa, to see how she likes living with two pretty Himilayans.  If she settles in there, she’ll be staying in this new cattery.

Later today, a family came to buy one of our female kittens, and went home with both Thyme and Ebony.

We still have Sage, Soot, and Coal available — all 3 are male.  Sage is black/white and Soot and Coal are both solid black.  They’re very affectionate guys, rubbing around our ankles, following us around, and wanting to be petted!

For Sale: 2 year old Tortoiseshell Persian

ElCloud Rings A Melody (called Melody) was born in August of 2007.  She’s a tortoiseshell Persian with a dark black background and patches of red here and there.  She is a beautiful flat-faced Persian.

Melody blinking

Melody's beautiful face, although we could NOT get a photo with her eyes fully open.

Melody’s  parents’ pedigrees can be viewed at Catpedigrees.com.  Some of the lines in her pedigree include Airlia, Prideomine, Kitty Charm, and Charmyr on her Mom’s side.  Her father’s lines include Worthwhile, Smoky Ridge, HighlandKatz, and Cattabury.  Although neither she nor her parents have been shown, there are Champions and Grand Champions in their bloodline.

We kept Melody to be a replacement for her mother as a breeding cat.  We love her, and have raised her as our pet all along.  But, with the addition of new cats this year, we’ve had to make a choice.  Melody doesn’t care for the new cats.  She prefers to spend much of her time in the bedroom with Max, away from the other cats.

Our oldest daughter isn’t happy with us, but we’ve decided that Melody would do better in a smaller cattery.  We’re also looking to retire her Mom Sweetie this year (most likely in the home) and her Dad Max in another year or so.  Although we bred Melody to Max this year, it isn’t ideal.  We’re thinking of keeping Frankincense to become our new male, and we do not want to breed Melody to him since they have the same parents.

Melody

So, we’re looking for a small family cattery who would like to have a tortoiseshell Persian.  Melody had a litter of 5 kittens this year (2 tortie, 3 black), although one was a runt that did not survive.  She was a good Mama to the other 4 kittens, though.

Melody 4 months

Melody at 4 months, resting in an interesting nook.

We are asking $350.00 for her, with breeding rights.  If we can not find a small cattery (without too many cats) for her, we will consider spaying her and selling her as a pet.

If you’re interested in our Melody, please contact us at elcloudcattery *at* gmail (dot) com.

UPDATE: Melody has gone to a new cattery home, on a trial basis.  If she settles in with the new cats, she’ll be staying there.  We’ll keep you updated on her situation.

We’re having a Kitten Sale!

We’ve never done this before, but we have 9 kittens running around, racing across our laps, taking over whatever paper we may be reading,  and tripping us when we walk.   It’s time to find them some new homes, where they can be spoiled rotten!

bi-color male Persian kittens

BOTH SOLD!! Bi-color Male Persians, Sage and Pumpkin. BOTH SOLD!!

Instead of $325, we are selling Dreamy and Joy’s kittens for $275 each.  They are CFA registered, and they will come with their registration papers.

Dreamy’s kittens are 13 weeks old, and have had both sets of kitten shots.  They are Sage, Pumpkin, and Thyme.

  1. Sage is the black/white bi-color male.   SOLD!!
  2. Pumpkin is the red/white bi-color male.  SOLD!!
  3. Thyme is a black female with a gray belly.   SOLD!!

Joy’s kittens are 10 weeks old, and have had their first set of kitten shots.  All three of them are solid black.

  1. Soot is a black male Persian (Himilayan mother).
  2. Coal is a black male Persian (Himilayan mother).
  3. Ebony is a black female Persian.  SOLD!!

All of the kittens have deep copper eyes and flat faces.   If you scroll down to previous entries,  you can see pictures of them.  We need to take new photos, since it has been four weeks since those were taken.

$100 deposit will hold a kitten.  Please remember that we are in Kansas and we have never shipped a kitten unaccompanied.  We recently researched that and found that most airlines will not accept pets as cargo when the temperature is under 45 degrees, which makes it hard to ship from Kansas in winter.

These are loving and fun kittens,  adjusted to children, and a 50 lb. dog.  They are well-socialized and friendly.

Please ask us about breeding rights, if you are interested in them.  Contact us at elcloudcattery (at) gmail *dot* com if you have any questions or are interested in one of the kittens.

Thank you!

January update on ElCloud Cattery

We have Dreamy’s and Joy’s kittens wandering the house freely now.  It’s fun to have 6 kittens tearing around the living room, playing with each other, and napping on the back of the couch.  Both litters are still nursing at times, but also eating plenty of kitten food, drinking water, and using the litter box.

Dreamy’s 12.5 week kittens

Sage (black/white bi-color male Persian) is a loving guy.  All you have to do is pick him up, and he starts to purr.  Last week he began to seek us out for attention, rubbing our leg and climbing into our laps.  We took his litter mates in to get their 12 week shots on Thursday, but he missed out because we could NOT find where he was sleeping.  We’ll have to get him in this week for his shots.

Pumpkin is on HOLD (red/white bi-color male Persian) enjoys being cuddled, too, but he’s often busy chasing one of the other kittens.  He has a loud purr like Sage, though.    He checked out fine at the vet this week when he got his second set of kitten shots.  He weighed 2.5 lbs, and I’m sure Sage is about the same size.

Thyme has SOLD (black female Persian) is more petite than her brothers.  She only weighed 1.5 lbs at the vet.  Her tummy is still quite gray, although I don’t know if her adult fur will have the gray belly.  She is a sweetie that is a little more laid-back than her brothers.  She doesn’t run around quite as much, but she can hold her own against them when they want to wrestle with her.

Joy’s 9.5 week old kittens

Joy’s black triplets are doing well.  They climb over the baby gate into the living room, and back into the kitchen when they need to use the litter box … most of the time.  One of them (not sure which) sometimes decides that the gate is just too much trouble to climb over and finds alternate spots to take care of  “business”.  Thankfully it’s not too often.

Ebony ( SOLD) is the lone female in this litter, with brothers Coal and Soot.   We tried to choose names that would represent their solid black coloring.  They are always chasing after their older cousins, climbing onto the couches, and exploring the house.  Their fur isn’t as long and fluffy as Dreamy’s kittens, and I’m not sure if it’s because they are half Himalayan, or simply because they’re younger.

We’ll be placing ads to sell these 6 later this week.  If you’re interested in any of them (see pictures in previous entries) you can email us at elcloudcattery *at* gmail (dot) com to discuss prices and payment options.  A $100 deposit will hold a kitten.

Kansas in her new home

Last weekend, Rosemary went home to her new family.  She’s now called Kansas.  Lindsey sent some pretty photos of Kansas in her new home last week.

Photos of Sweetie’s Christmas kittens

Sweetie’s kittens were born 12/6 and are now two weeks old.  I took the first photos of them today.   Frankincense is the red male; Holly is the black female with the white dot placed on her head;  Mistletoe is the black female without any markings.

Sweetie did NOT want me to have Frankincense out of the basket, so she decided to walk between the camera and Frankincesne. You can barely see him behind her leg.

More kitten pictures from last week …

Last week we took a few photos of Joy’s 6 week old kittens, and Thyme again.    This time we put them in a dark-colored recliner we have.   Joy’s kittens were still a little camera-shy, but they did cooperate (for the most part).

First, Joy’s black female kitten — Ebony   (SOLD).

Joy's Ebony

Ebony, Joy's black female kitten. SOLD!

Ebony

Ebony is SOLD

Second, we have Joy’s kitten — Soot. Black male Persian.  We placed a white dot just above his tail on his back, to be able to tell him apart.

Soot

Joy's male kitten, Soot.

Soot

Soot lying down.

Soot

Soot, black male flat-faced Persian kitten.

And now … we have photos of Joy’s other male kitten,  Coal. We placed a white dot on his head to tell him apart from Soot and Ebony.   These pictures also show some humorous examples of why taking photos of the kittens can be difficult at times.

Coal suspicious

Coal, looking rather suspicious ... or perhaps ticked off?

Coal shocked

Immediately after the suspicious photo (actually several suspicious photos) we got this one of Coal looking quite shocked!!

So today we took two better photos of Coal, trying to get a normal facial expression.

Coal being held

Tiny Coal, being held by me.

Coal in chair again

We put Coal back in the chair, and then he didn't want to look at us. But here is one shot of him looking over his shoulder, with a normal facial expression.

And last of all, a photo of Thyme — Dreamy’s black female kitten (9 weeks). Here is another example of photo difficulty.  The photos we took last week had a lighting problem.  The flash made her look much more gray than she really is.  Her belly is gray, but her face is not really that gray.   SOLD!!

Thyme

Thyme, looking more gray than she should. SOLD

Thyme

An older photo of Thyme, which shows that her face is not really gray. SOLD

We hope you enjoyed the updated photos of our kittens.  I just had to include the weird shots of Coal because they were too funny not to post.
